On the morning of May 23 at Diesel Song Cong Company, VEAM Corporation’s Trade Union held the Launching Ceremony of the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health in 2024 and the 8th Excellent Safety and Health Workers Competition.
With the theme “Worker Solidarity – Resolution Implementation”, on April 24, 2024, Vietnam Industry and Trade Trade Union successfully organized the Workers’ Month and the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in 2024.
Following the success of the Launching Program organized by the Trade Union of Industry and Trade, the Trade Union of Vietnam Engine and Agricultural Machinery Corporation – JSC (VEAM) organized the Launching Ceremony of the Labor Safety and Hygiene Month and the 8th Excellent Safety and Hygiene Competition on May 23, 2024 at Song Cong Diesel One Member Co., Ltd.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Mai Manh Dung – Chairman of VEAM Trade Union said: On February 24, 2012, the Central Party Secretariat issued Conclusion No. 77-TB/TW on choosing May every year as Workers’ Month. Over the past 12 years, Workers’ Month has truly become a series of festivals for workers nationwide in general and the Trade Union of Industry and Trade in particular.
Accordingly, many specific activities aimed at workers have received deep attention from Party committees at all levels, authorities, employers, the response of a large number of union members and workers, and positive recognition from society.
Trade unions at all levels have carried out many activities to care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers, build harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations in enterprises, and constantly improve working conditions for workers, thereby affirming the role and position of the contributions of the working class in the cause of industrialization, modernization and international integration.
According to Mr. Mai Manh Dung, May – Month of action on occupational safety and hygiene is an opportunity to raise awareness and compliance with laws on occupational safety and hygiene, promote the implementation of measures to improve working conditions, reduce pollution of the working environment, limit occupational accidents and diseases, and take care of workers’ health.

“ At the ceremony, 226 gifts from VEAM Union and 114 gifts from Industry and Trade Union were given to union members and workers,” said Mr. Mai Manh Dung.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade also awarded Certificates of Merit to 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in the Green – Clean – Beautiful work to ensure occupational safety and hygiene in 2023.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of Vietnam Industry and Trade Union Quach Van Ngoc highly appreciated VEAM union in implementing the 2024 labor safety and hygiene month – This is one of the pioneering units in this work.
According to Mr. Quach Van Ngoc, for a business, the most valuable asset is people, this is the decisive factor and driving force for business development, therefore the task of taking care of union members and workers is an important task of the government and trade unions in businesses.
Mr. Quach Van Ngoc emphasized: The task of each level of trade union and government is to create a safe and professional working environment through occupational safety and hygiene procedures and special mechanisms. Those regulations are implemented between trade union organizations and workers to bring the best and highest working conditions and environment for workers.
At the same time, the competition is an opportunity for trade unions at the grassroots level to compete, exchange experiences and further improve awareness, knowledge and skills for workers and grassroots trade union managers on occupational safety and hygiene at the workplace.

Expressing and affirming the support and close coordination between the government and trade unions, speaking at the event, Mr. Le Minh Quy – Deputy General Director of VEAM said that in order to effectively implement occupational safety and hygiene, all levels of professionals, trade unions and workers need to increase awareness of the importance and effectively implement the work of ensuring occupational safety and hygiene for workers and employers, creating motivation, inspiration and spreading to workers so that the working class can increasingly contribute positively and effectively to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

At the same time, continue to improve working conditions, proactively prevent work-related accidents and occupational diseases, especially for female workers, and ensure timely and adequate policies and regimes on work-related accidents and occupational diseases for individuals and their families.
Mr. Le Minh Quy believes that with the attention and support of authorities at all levels and trade unions, activities to care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers will increasingly spread, thereby building harmonious and progressive labor relations. These activities will not only focus on the Labor Safety and Hygiene Action Month but will also spread and be maintained for 12 months of the year.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, VEAM Union also organized the 8th Excellent Safety and Hygiene Competition.
The competition had the participation of 10 teams, including 09 teams from grassroots unions under VEAM Union and 01 team from Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Union under Vietnam Steel Corporation Union.

Promoting the traditions and achievements gained through the VEAM Excellent Safety and Hygiene Contests, this year’s contest teams brought outstanding performances, good and creative skits to promote spirit and responsibility, promote the patriotic emulation movement, set good examples in labor production, work and study of each unit, contributing with enterprises in the whole Corporation to perform well in occupational safety and hygiene work, and successfully complete the targets set by the enterprises.
On behalf of nearly 1,000 union members, speaking at the launching ceremony, the representative of the union of Song Cong Diesel Company Limited, Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, said that a safe working environment is one of the factors that help businesses maintain stability and success in their production and business activities.

Therefore, the work of occupational safety and hygiene has always been of concern to the Party and the State in order to improve working conditions, ensure the safety of life and health of workers. Thereby, protecting the assets of the State and enterprises, minimizing occupational accidents and diseases with the central goal of focusing on workers has contributed to building a harmonious, stable and progressive relationship in enterprises.
Since then, we have received the support of many union members and workers and positive recognition from society, so that the position of trade union organizations and occupational safety and hygiene work has been increasingly raised in the awareness of workers.

With the theme of the 2024 Occupational Safety and Health Month being “Strengthening occupational safety and health at the workplace and in the supply chain”, more than 17,000 union members and workers in VEAM promise to concretize the contents focusing on implementing specific tasks: Enhancing the responsibility of all levels in the unit, especially the role of workers in protecting themselves and their colleagues, avoiding risks leading to occupational accidents; Strengthening preventive measures, ensuring occupational safety and health; Organizing training as well as fully equipping workers with technical means of labor protection according to regulations; Strengthening the inspection and supervision of the implementation of occupational safety and health, thereby building a culture of safety in production; promptly carrying out environmental impact assessments, solutions to respond to climate change , continuously improving the environment and working conditions for workers…
